Monitoring Activity
Activity monitoring is a crucial feature in Baskt that allows you to track file transfers, user actions, and system events across your SFTP servers. This feature provides valuable insights into usage patterns, helps maintain security, and assists in troubleshooting.
Understanding Activity Logs
Baskt’s activity logs capture various types of information, including:
- Timestamps of actions
- Users performing actions
- Types of actions (e.g., downloads, uploads, deletions)
- File paths involved
- Whether actions were allowed or denied
- Bandwidth usage
These logs are essential for:
- Security monitoring
- Usage tracking
- Troubleshooting issues
- Maintaining compliance records
Where to Find Activity Logs
Baskt provides activity monitoring at three levels:
-
Account Activity: Shows all actions across your entire Baskt account.
- Location: Click on the “Activity” tab in the main navigation menu.
-
Bucket Activity: Displays actions related to a specific bucket.
- Location: Navigate to the “Buckets” page, click on a bucket, then select the “Activity” tab.
-
User Activity: Shows actions of a specific user across all buckets they can access.
- Location: Go to the “Buckets” page, click on a bucket, then click on a user’s name.
Each of these views presents similar information tailored to its specific scope, allowing you to drill down from a broad overview to specific user actions as needed.
Reading Activity Logs
Regardless of the view, activity logs typically include the following columns:
- Timestamp: Date and time of the action
- User: The user who performed the action (in Account and Bucket views)
- Allowed: Whether the action was permitted (yes) or denied (no)
- Action: The type of operation (e.g., download, upload, delete)
- Path: The file or directory path involved
- Bandwidth used: Amount of data transferred
Use these logs to monitor your SFTP servers’ usage, ensure security, and optimize performance. Regular checks of your activity logs can help you spot unusual patterns or potential issues early.
